What is OpSoc?
OpSoc is the Opera Society within the University of Nottingham, established since April 2009. Our third year as a society is set to be full of exciting events, continuing our fantastic productions, brilliant social events and excellent opportunities for all singers!
Here’s a video by NUTS.. OpSoc were the first to be interviewed for their new online feature SPOTLIGHT where you can learn about all the societies The University of Nottingham have to offer!
Following the great success of our performances of Alex Patterson’s ‘Ent’re Act’ composed for us by the, Nottingham based composer and A Night of 20th Century Opera which sampled the opera of composers such as Holst and Barber and our most successful summer production of Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas
WE LOOK FORWARD TO ANNOUNCING OUR NEW OPERAS FOR 2012..
There will be chances for singers of all levels to get involved and we certainly hope that you’ll enjoy the different events we have to offer this year!
Along with our weekly group rehearsals, we will be organising singing workshops welcoming all abilities! We will also be organising trips to the opera in Nottingham, having been to see Bizet’s Carmen, Weinberg’s The Portrait, and Lehár’s The Merry Widow performed by Opera North in Nottingham we cannot wait to announce what exciting performances we will be going to see this year.
We will also be doing lots of charity work and hopefully some touring! There will also of course be many more of our great socials, which are always brilliant and certainly nights to remember.. or not!
You can join! Whether you’re a solo singer, love being in choruses, enjoy acting, play an instrument or just simply enjoy opera! We welcome everyone and there are always plenty of opportunities to get involved.
Opera is an art which has survived the ages and we aim to nurture it and bring it to the students of Nottingham University. OpSoc has already opened the gates to new horizons for many people over its short time as a society! Our rehearsals and workshops are brilliant fun and many strong friendships have been formed. Some of our members and directors have carried on their musical careers at colleges such as The Royal Academy Of Music and Birmingham Conservatoire. Membership is £5 and lasts a year- the question is, why not join?
To join you can become a member via the Student’s Union Website here.
Please feel free to join us on Facebook where you can see our latest news, photos and talk to and meet other members!
