Dear OpSoc,

Thank you to everyone who came to the rehearsal last night – it was really productive, you guys are great at your evil laugh.

However, there were several members of the chorus who failed to attend and failed to let me know in advance.

In any circumstance, even if you are unwell, it is only right that you let me know that you are unable to attend rehearsals. However, the excuse that you have too much work is unacceptable. It is that time of year, every single person in OpSoc has a large amount of work to do, myself included. You were provided with rehearsal schedules weeks in advance for this exact reason, so that you could organise your work around the committements you have made to OpSoc.
I would love every single person to be involved in Dido this term, it should be a great production however it is impossible to do so if people do not commit to rehearsals. Not only does it make things difficult to set and stage as people are missing each week, but it is completely unfair to those who have made the effort to learn music and attend rehearsals, let alone to the committee who organise OpSoc for everyone.

I am sorry to send this message, and I know that this message only applies to a minority, but please bear it in mind. If everyone puts in the effort it should be a fantastic production and will make all the rehearsals worth while!

Please let me know if you would like me to send you another copy of rehearsal schedule.

Thank you, and see you all at the AGM on Saturday – remember there will be orange drink and biscuits! xxx

I have listed the positions to be elected below. Feel free to contact the person currently in the role that you are interested in or already running for.

President – Jade Whymark – amyjw@nottingham.ac.uk

Vice President – Maddie Hale – apymh@nottingham.ac.uk

Musical Director – Jeremy Franklin – amydrjf@nottingham.ac.uk

Producer – Lily Bracegirdle – amylb@nottingham.ac.uk

Treasurer – David Brooks – amydb@nottingham.ac.uk

Publicity Officer – Fiona Spencer – aeycfrs@nottingham.ac.uk

General Secretary – Kat Rolle – afykfr@nottingham.ac.uk

Répétiteur – Ed Denham – amydefd@nottingham.ac.uk

Social Sec – Olivia Cheung – adydoc@nottingham.ac.uk

Just a reminder that to be able to run as a society next year, OpSoc needs to elect a President and a Treasurer. (The Treasurer must not be in the final year of their degree, once in the position.)

If you are running for a position on the committee, you will need to give a 2 minute speech outlining why you would be suitable for that role. You will also need a Proposer to give a talk for 1 minute outlining why you would be suitable for the position that you are running for. Finally you will need to allocate a second person to give their support to you by simply raising their hand when asked. Neither the Proposer nor the Seconder can be on the current committee.

It would be great to see a lot of you running for a position on the committee because it is great fun, you learn a lot and it is a perfect way to make your mark on OpSoc next year – plus an interesting thing to add onto your CV.

Again if you have any questions, then either send them to suopsoc@nottingham.ac.uk or to Jade at amyjw@nottingham.ac.uk. Plus make sure that you let Jade know if you are planning to run for a position by THIS FRIDAY (4th May).

See you all on Saturday
